mkr, most lenders will lend 4 x salary depending on how much the house is worth, I have heard of some lenders prepared to lend 7 x salary or more if the borrower had a decent downpayment. You don't have to earn a fortune to get a mortgage anywhere - one of the reasons for the sub prime mess.
We had $100k from our UK house to put down on our place and the bank would have lent me a hell of alot more than we asked for.

Es, Witness 007, where do you guys live? I am hoping to buy an investment home some time in the next year to eventually pay off the mortgage on our place in Perth. I bought a 4x2 on 780 sqm of land in Jan 2005 for $430,000 and it is now worth over $630,000. Perth has become one of the least affordable place to buy housing on the planet.
You can still build or buy a small 4x2 on 450-500 sqm for $450-500k but that is not in so desirable an area. Perth has been picked up by the resources boom and the amount of money people can make on the mines. -

I agree with B_Deserter, this sort of behaviour reinforces the victim mentality of the JWs.
People like Danny H did nothing more than push the sheep back into the fold - underlining the borg's line that everyone who is a apostate is a mentalist. -

What weird and wonderful Syndromes did the bros and sisters profess to have
by myababes inwhen i was in the organisation was in a few different congs.
every one always had a good proportion of them that claimed they had "me".
not sure what they call it in the states but think chronic fatigue may be similar.it had an age range between young teenagers and midle aged ones.

I had several sisters in the cong who had ME, typical that it was impossible to prove a diagnosis - just fitted the "symptoms" in the absence of anything which could be proven. My mother worked at a doctor's surgery and saw several sisters who were convinced that they had ME because the doctor could not find any more exotic explaination for their common or garden depression.
I am convinced that the witnesses attract those of a more delicate mental disposition who are prone to hypochondria. -

kill them and then hide the bodies in a mine shaft :)
Honestly? It's a grieving process to realise that your family feel that their imaginary friend is more important than their own flesh and blood. Only time will make it hurt a little less, you now need to fill your life with people who are not so judgemental and will love you for who you are not what you believe.

Never Thought About Suicide. Why not?
by Nosferatu ini was doing some thinking this morning about my mother, when she said she wanted to "work on our bond" over a pizza, and i pretty much didn't bother with the offer.
i was thinking about how i'd confronted her before my boy was born about all the physical abuse which she denied.
i started thinking back to that time in my life, when i would shake uncontrollably thinking about school, let alone actually going to school.

I had a similar upbringing, similar abuse and similar response. I did at one point evaluate suicide as an option but never considered it as a viable choice - there is ALWAYS light at the end of the tunnel, for me this was knowing that at 18 I would be leaving home. I also approached the situation as a challenge, who would break first?
In the end I proved to be more resilient and got out of the situation at 18 and ended up getting DF'd; I guess it was my bloody mindedness and confidence in my own ability to eventually improve the situation that always ruled out suicide.

Online games
by RollerDave inok, here's a safer topic.. what is with people who can live their entire life in an online game?.
i have an ex who submerged herself in world of warcraft and insisted on talking about characters, places, events, and items from in-game as if they existed in the real world.. she would start off telling me she was going someplace to do something, and in the end it would be 'wait a minute, this is all in-game?!?'.
then i'd be all exasperated that she'd wasted my time.. she even tried to leave her husband and child for some guy from texas who 'fell in love' with her avvie on star wars galaxies!.

To be honest I think it goes beyond playing games online, I met a girl on an IRC chat room and got to know her over a period of several months swapping emails, IRC chat, phone calls and MSN messages.
As I was on the phone to a travel agent booking my flight tickets to Canada to meet her IRL she messaged me to tell me that she had 3 kids and had only split with her boyfriend a month before - several months into our "relationship".
It was an interesting experience; I still flew out and met her, stayed for a couple of days and went backpacking round Quebec and Ontario. What it did teach me was that it is easy to take online relationships at face value when a large part of one's online persona is about escapism/anonimity.

What an awesome thread
Someone has just mentioned "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison
"Knocking On Heavens Door" by Guns 'n' Roses (Yes I know it's originally a Dylan song)
"I don't love you anymore" by the Quireboys
"Never Say Goodbye" by Bonjovi
Anyone get the feeling that the 80's was a time of big hair and big Rock Ballads?
